Ukraine weather is classified as temperate continental, with both its winter and autumn seasons characterized by an abundant amount of rainy, overcast days. It’s also worth noting that heavy precipitation is not only apparent in the mountainous regions of the country, but also for Ukraine’s inland areas. Sunlight throughout the Ukraine varies from 1700 hours from the northern area to 2400 in the south
In sharp contrast, Ukraine weather around the south coast of the Crimean Peninsula follows distinctively Mediterranean patters a factor attributed to the area’s positioning amongst two climatic zones. Winters in this area are notable for conditions that veer towards coolness, as well as hefty amounts of snowfall. Most of the snowfall falls between October and April, while temperatures average between -8 to 2°C. Understandably, Ukraine weather becomes colder and conditions harsher the further inland one ventures.
Whilst winters are long and cold, the summers are brief and can become extremely hot. Again, this is more apparent in the south area of the country; while average daily temperatures hover between 18-27°C, mercury is not avert to the occasional ascent to a sizzling r 39°C. This sudden increase in temperatures is a direct result of the influence of air flow blowing in from Africa. The summer season in the Ukraine lasts from 120 to 150 days.
Precipitation occurs in the form of thundery showers and the occasional monsoon; the majority of rainfall is highest in the west and north of the country and most specifically the Carpathians mountains that experience 1500 mm of rainfall, and the Crimean Mountains with 1000–1200 mm. The least precipitation is experienced in the east and southeast Black and Azov seas which only manage a meager 300–450 mm.
Ukraine weather in the rest of the country is typified by temperate conditions. Although the average daily temperature for the month of July is around 10° C, during January mercury can take a nose dive to a freezing -6°.
Ukraine weather during spring is characterized by frosts and average daily temperatures of around 0°C. The spring season makes its first appearance around the southwest and Crimea regions, descending on the north and south of Ukraine approximately 37 days later.
Spring first strokes the southwest and Crimea and it makes its approach north from the south in approximately 37 days.
In the autumn the temperatures plummet and some frosts are possible, while the number of rainy days and fog increases. Autumn remains for about 70 days in the southwest to 90 days in Zakarpattia. Although rather rare, periods of warm spells can occasionally intercept the prevailing cold of Ukraine weather during this time of the year.
